Garforth Community College Student Council

The College has an elected Student Council comprising two students from each Year Group Council.  There is a separate 6th Form Council.  The Student Council has a Manifesto that covers a wide range of issues including:

  • Improving facilities in school
  • Developing links with one of Leeds' twin cities, Durban in South Africa
  • Security in school
  • Bullying

In 2006/07 the Student Council has met with the Director of Children's Services in Leeds, Rosemary Archer; has run a successful campaign in school to highlight Healthy Eating; has taken part in a two night residential; has elected representatives to attend the Garforth and Swillington Community Forum

The Student Council meets regularly after school and is supported by staff from Leeds Youth Service.  Students can also stand for election to Leeds Youth Council where they meet and work with other young people from High Schools across Leeds, to represent the views of 11-18 year-olds, city-wide.  Additionally, two of our Student Councillors have also served as members of the UK Youth Parliament and have represented the city at a national level.
